“President Trump has repeatedly championed election integrity and called on Congress to attach the SAVE Act to any legislation it may pass. We urge him to veto the housing bill and make clear that Congress must attach the SAVE Act in order for him to sign the bill.”—Ken Cuccinelli, National Chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative.
Sen. Mike Lee continues to press for action on the SAVE Act—ETI urges his Senate colleagues to join the effort and calls on House leaders to reject major legislation that fails to include election integrity protections.

Arlington, VA — June 24, 2026 — The Election Transparency Initiative (ETI) today commended U.S. Senator Mike Lee for his tireless efforts to advance the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The organization also urged House leadership to insist that any major legislation sent to the President—including the Senate’s recent housing package and future reauthorizations such as FISA—include the SAVE Act’s election integrity protections.
Sen. Lee has repeatedly pushed for debate and consideration of legislation requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration and voter identification standards for federal elections, arguing that protecting the votes of American citizens should not be a partisan issue.
Most recently, Congress sent a major housing package to the President’s desk, underscoring lawmakers’ ability to move legislation when sufficient political will exists.
“Sen. Mike Lee has done everything possible to move this legislation forward,” said Ken Cuccinelli, National Chairman of ETI. “The real question is why so many of his colleagues refuse to join him. Americans overwhelmingly support commonsense safeguards that ensure only citizens vote in federal elections and that every legal vote is protected.”
ETI urged congressional leaders to ensure election integrity remains part of the legislative agenda and called on lawmakers to support Sen. Lee’s continued efforts to advance the SAVE Act.
“Congress has demonstrated that when lawmakers decide something is important, they can move legislation quickly,” Cuccinelli added. “The question is why election security continues to be pushed aside.”
“As we prepare to celebrate 250 years of independence, Congress should remember that confidence in our elections is the foundation of self-government. Election integrity is not a partisan issue—it’s an American one.” —Ken Cuccinelli
