Arlington, VA – Wisconsin’s ballot proposal to elevate its photo ID requirement from state statute to constitutional amendment was overwhelmingly approved by voters Tuesday. The law applies to voting in all elections.

In conjunction with American Principles Project, the Election Transparency Initiative made 700,000 voter contacts as part of a six-figure campaign to help Question 1 succeed on the ballot.

National Chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued the following statement:

“Photo ID is supported overwhelmingly by virtually every voting demographic—regardless of party, race, or where one lives—because it protects the right to vote in elections that are fair, secure, and honest. We applaud Wisconsin voters for helping to protect the integrity of their elections by giving the state’s photo ID law the permanency it deserves.”

A recent study from the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) concluded that there is “no statistically significant negative impact of Wisconsin’s voter ID law on overall voter turnout.”

“In fact, turnout has slightly increased since the law’s implementation, challenging claims that voter ID requirements lead to widespread disenfranchisement.”

The Election Transparency Initiative, a partnership between the American Principles Project (APP) and Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America, was organized to combat federal H.R. 1 and H.R. 4 legislation and advocate for state-based election reforms that voters can trust.
