FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 26, 2025
Arlington, VA – A bill to require proof of U.S. citizenship and proof of Wyoming residency to register to vote, as well as a durational residency requirement, has become law after Governor Mark Gordon announced he would not be issuing a veto.
Wyoming is now the first state in the nation to require proof of citizenship in all races, including federal elections.
National Chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued the following statement:
“Only U.S. citizens should decide the outcome of U.S. elections—period. Secretary of State Chuck Gray and the bill’s champions deserve thunderous applause for taking this pivotal step to protect the integrity of our elections and the solemn right of American citizens to vote. We urge more states to do the same.
“The radical Left can’t credibly say that they don’t want illegals to vote nor that foreign-citizen voting isn’t an issue worth addressing. Had Washington Democrats succeeded in passing their federal takeover of elections into law via H.R. 1, make no mistake states would have been required to automatically register foreign citizens to vote.”
The leading priority of Secretary of State Chuck Gray’s Election Integrity Agenda announced in December of 2024, House Bill 156 overwhelmingly passed on its third readings 51-8 in the House and 26-4 in the Senate.
The Election Transparency Initiative conducted a robust grassroots outreach and education effort in Wyoming to help pass House Bill 156 into law.
The Election Transparency Initiative, a partnership between the American Principles Project (APP) and Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America, was organized to combat federal H.R. 1 and H.R. 4 legislation and advocate for state-based election reforms that voters can trust.
