Ongoing delays risk voters’ confidence in free & fair election outcomes

Washington, D.C. Arizona elections remain undecided with several hundred thousand votes yet to be counted days after the polls closed on November 8th. Election officials indicate that counting will stretch into the coming week.

National Chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued the following statement:

“The fundamental purpose of election integrity is to protect the right to vote in elections voters can trust, regardless of where you live, your race, or party affiliation. It’s to ensure that that every legal vote can be cast and counted fairly, openly, and equally in elections that are secure and accountable. And that voters feel their elections were administered honestly with the highest standard of integrity. But the reality is that when counting pauses and stretches on for days, election integrity is compromised in an environment of uncertainty and doubt.

“Without delay, Maricopa County officials should act by expeditiously adding all additional personnel needed and continue working around the clock until every remaining ballot is tabulated and countedwith continual citizen oversight by all campaigns. This is the standard of transparency voters deserve.

The Election Transparency Initiative, a partnership between the American Principles Project (APP) and Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America was organized to combat federal H.R. 1 and H.R. 4 legislation and advocate for state-based election reforms that voters can trust.
