H.R. 4 Would Block Election Law Reforms in the States & Effectively Dictate Elections from Inside the Beltway
Washington, D.C. – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today announced the introduction of H.R. 4, the latest Democrat bill attempting a federal takeover of elections. If enacted, H.R. 4 would force state legislatures to seek permission from federal bureaucrats in order to pass or change state election laws through a constitutionally questionable process called preclearance.
National Chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued the following statement:
“The reality is that Democrats want to give radical, left-wing unelected federal bureaucrats veto authority over state election laws, rigging the system in their favor and silencing millions of American voices to ensure they can’t lose for the next 100 years. To do this, Democrats have continued their 20+ year propaganda campaign about ‘voter suppression,’ despite continuing improvements in access to both registration and voting. In fact, it has never been easier to vote for every American than it is today – yet the Democrats continue their media-assisted ‘voter suppression’ propaganda in an effort to pass bills like H.R. 4.”
Recent polling shows the majority of voters, including Black and Hispanic voters, as well as urban and independent voters, overwhelmingly support voter I.D. protections and want it to be easy to vote and hard to cheat.
The Election Transparency Initiative, a partnership between American Principles Project (APP) and the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), was organized to combat H.R. 1/S. 1 and advocate for state-based election reforms that voters can trust.
