Coleman signs comprehensive Election Integrity questionnaire & pledge

Arlington, VA – The Election Transparency Initiative (ETI) today endorsed conservative Mary Elizabeth Coleman in advance of the August 6th Republican primary for Missouri Secretary of State.

Importantly, Senator Coleman successfully committed to the 2024 Election Integrity Candidate Questionnaire and Pledge, which is led by ETI and backed by a broad coalition of nearly two-dozen national organizations, inviting candidates to go on the record so voters can gauge their commitment to issues of Election Integrity for themselves. Support for the questionnaire and pledge by participating organizations does not confer their endorsement of any candidate.

Republican primary candidate Shane Schoeller also filed a satisfactory questionnaire and pledge, which included thoughtful comments on Missouri-specific aspects of election administration. Learn more here.

National Chairman of the Election Transparency Initiative and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued the following statement:

“We enthusiastically endorse Senator Coleman for secretary of state because she will best administer fair and honest elections every voter can trust. Her impeccable record in the legislature speaks for itself and we’re pleased she was willing to back it up even further by putting her name on our comprehensive pledge. Never is it more frustrating when candidates who say they support Election Integrity aren’t able to submit to a detailed accounting of their stances on the underlying issues.

“Now more than ever, voters should be confident that their vote matters, that it will be counted fairly and equally in elections that are secure and transparent, and that they can be comfortable with the outcomes whether their preferred candidate succeeds at the polls or not. Senator Coleman will deliver Election Integrity for Missouri and has our full support.

“We are also pleased to receive an excellent survey response from GOP candidate Shane Schoeller and appreciated his thoughtful comments on the responsibilities of the office he seeks. Missouri is looking good!”

Specifically, Coleman pledged to actively support election administration, legislation, litigation, and regulations (consistent with the law) that will help ensure free and fair Missouri elections voters can trust—including a number of ballot security and voter integrity measures—while rejecting unsecure and unverifiable voting practices that undermine confidence in election outcomes. Coleman also completed a wide-ranging questionnaire that surveyed her specific position on a range of critical issues, including citizen-only voting, voter ID, ballot security, absentee voting, private financing of local elections, ballot trafficking, and more.

The Election Transparency Initiative, a partnership between the American Principles Project (APP) and Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America, was organized to combat federal H.R. 1 and H.R. 4 legislation and advocate for state-based election reforms that voters can trust.
